Art Basel has announced a significant rebranding and relocation for its annual fair in Paris. Beginning with the 2024 edition, the fair will be known as Art Basel Paris, shedding its former name, Paris+ par Art Basel. This strategic shift reflects the organization’s commitment to unifying its global fairs under a cohesive brand identity.

The Grand Palais: A Restored Cultural Landmark

The move to the Grand Palais provides Art Basel Paris with a larger space and the capacity to accommodate more galleries. The Grand Palais, a stunning architectural masterpiece, has undergone a significant renovation and will offer visitors an exceptional experience.

After serving as a temporary venue for the Olympics and the Centre Pompidou, the Grand Palais will be ready to welcome Art Basel Paris and contribute to Paris’s vibrant cultural scene.

Art Basel Paris Brand Identity

The newly renamed Art Basel Paris will take place at the iconic Grand Palais in the heart of the 8th arrondissement. This prestigious venue offers visitors an immersive experience and a grand showcase for a diverse range of contemporary art. The 2024 edition of the fair will take place from October 18th to 20th.

The name change aligns with Art Basel’s vision of presenting a consistent and recognizable identity across its Basel, Miami Beach, and Hong Kong fairs. The Paris fair will leverage its established reputation and global reach by adopting the Art Basel name, attracting international collectors, dealers, artists, and enthusiasts. This strategic move strengthens Art Basel’s position as a leading platform for contemporary art and enhances its global presence.

Art Basel Paris Exhibitors and Sectors

Art Basel Paris promises to gather a remarkable array of art galleries from across the globe. The fair will feature 194 galleries from 42 countries and territories, including 51 first-time participants. A third of exhibitors operate spaces in France. The fair will showcase various contemporary artworks in multiple mediums, including paintings, sculptures, installations, and digital art.

Art Basel Paris will unfold across three distinct exhibition sectors. The “Galeries” sector will showcase a diverse range of contemporary art from established galleries, while the “Emergence” sector is dedicated to emerging artists and galleries.

The fair’s new sector, “Premise,” will present nine distinctive presentations that challenge the traditional boundaries of art history. This sector aims to foster inclusivity and diversity and provide emerging and underrepresented artists a platform to display their talent.

Conversations and Special Initiatives

For the first time, the fair’s “Conversations” program, curated by Pierre-Alexandre Matéos and Charles Teyssou, will be held at the renowned Petit Palais. This program will feature insightful discussions and presentations by leading figures from the art world.

Additionally, the fair will introduce “Oh La La!”, an initiative inviting exhibitors in the primary sector to present rarely seen works in their booths from October 18th to 19th. This initiative allows visitors to discover hidden gems from participating galleries’ collections.

Art Basel Paris Map

In addition to the main art show, Art Basel Paris will have a public program with talks, performances, and film screenings. These events will take place at different locations throughout the city. If you will visit, look for more information about a month before the fair.

The Grand Palais ideally sits at the intersection of Paris’ major gallery neighborhoods. Another tip if you will be visiting: Make sure to review nearby gallery openings. Galleries earmark fair months for their most ambitious shows and often have artist talks or curator walkthroughs during fair week.

Art Basel Paris 2024 promises to be a remarkable edition of the fair, showcasing a diverse range of contemporary art in a reimagined setting. With its new name, location, and exciting initiatives, Art Basel Paris is poised to attract global art enthusiasts and further solidify its position as a leading platform for contemporary art.
